Restaurant-quality steak at home doesn't need hours in the kitchen — it needs a great cut and a hot pan. With premium beef from Mmmm! delivered to your door, these three recipes are on the table in 30 minutes or less.
Before you start: three steak rules
- Temper: take steaks out of the fridge 20–30 minutes before cooking.
- Dry and season: pat the surface dry and salt generously for a better crust.
- Rest: let the steak rest for 5 minutes before slicing so the juices stay inside.
1. Pan-seared steak with garlic butter
Serves 2 · 20 minutes
Ingredients
- 2 steaks — grass-fed ribeye or wagyu striploin
- 2 cloves garlic, peeled and lightly crushed
- 1 sprig fresh rosemary or thyme
- ½ tbsp vegetable oil
- Freshly ground black pepper and sea salt
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
Method
- Pat the steaks dry and season well with salt and pepper.
- Heat the oil in a heavy pan until it just starts to smoke. Sear the steaks for 2–4 minutes per side, depending on thickness and doneness.
- Lower the heat, add the butter, garlic and herbs, and spoon the foaming butter over the steaks for 1 minute.
- Rest for 5 minutes, then slice against the grain.
2. Rump steak with mushroom sauce
Serves 2 · 25 minutes
Ingredients
- 2 rump steaks — grass-fed rump cap, grain-fed rump cap or wagyu rump
- 1 yellow onion, finely diced
- 200g button mushrooms, sliced
- A handful of rocket and chopped parsley
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- ⅓ cup sour cream
- Salt and pepper
Method
- Season and sear the steaks to your liking; rest them on a warm plate.
- In the same pan, sauté the onion until soft, then add the mushrooms and cook until golden.
- Stir in the Worcestershire sauce and sour cream, and simmer for 1–2 minutes. Season to taste.
- Slice the steaks, spoon over the sauce and finish with parsley and rocket.
3. Honey-soy steak
Serves 4 · 30 minutes including marinating
Ingredients
- 4 steaks of 150–200g each — grain-fed chuck eye roll or hanging tender
- 2 tbsp grated ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, grated
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp honey
- Toasted sesame seeds (optional)
Method
- Mix the ginger, garlic, sesame oil, soy and honey. Marinate the steaks for at least 15 minutes.
- Cook over medium-high heat for 3–4 minutes per side until nicely caramelised (the honey can burn, so watch the heat).
- Rest, slice and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
